Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in the mission: “Baptism is the sacrament or regeneration through water and in the word.” Catechism of the Catholic Church

Baptism of children (infancy through 6 years old) are celebrated during Sunday Mass. Usually celebrated on the fourth Saturday and Sunday of the month. Spanish baptisms are celebrated during the Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Mass. Baptisms are NOT celebrated during Advent and Lent.

Parents seeking to have their children baptized must register their child by filling out a pre-baptismal registration form. Please read through "Baptism Checklist" for needed paperwork. To attend and register for a scheduled class call 360-491-0890 ext 103 and provide parent names, child's name, godparent's names and phone number.

The family should be a registered parishioner of Sacred Heart, and if not, a letter is needed from the pastor of the Church where you are registered and attend, granting permission to have your child baptized at Sacred Heart. Due to limited space, registration closes two weeks prior to our monthly baptisms.

Both parents and the godparents need to attend a baptismal class. If godparents are from another parish, they can take the baptism class at their local parish and a letter is needed from their pastor stating they have taken the class and are eligible to be a godparent. The requirements to be a godparent are: (1) must be at least 16 years of age; (2) received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) in the Catholic Church; and (3) be in good standing in the Catholic Church and if married, must be married in the Catholic Church.

Baptism classes: The class is held in Hallen Hall for both Spanish and English from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
